Konecto Flooring: For Your Home

Konecto Flooring is a floating floor that can be installed over other types of flooring in your house. It can easily be installed over wood, concrete or other common types of flooring. It can be installed over previous tile floors, but if you do, it might be necessary to grout the old tile evenly to avoid any issues. Konecto Flooring is water-proof so it is good for outside as well as inside. Konecto floors come in planks, much like wood but while it looks similar, it’s actually a dual-part plank that consists of two layers.

The top layer is designed, while the bottom layer is vinyl. The dual-part planks are very flexible, and that goes a long way in making the installation very easy. They are easy to cut, press and shape however you like, so when installing a new Konecto Floor, this makes your life just that much easier. To install Konecto Vinyl Flooring, you will need the following items, as well as a few hours to complete the job. The time it will take definitely reflects on your level or experience.

The first thing you need is obviously Konecto Flooring. You can find this from the manufacturer’s website, or other places online that sell it. You’ll also need a Straight Edge Razor or Utility Knife. Chalk, or Chalk Line tool. Spacers, Measuring Tape, Hand Rollers & Floor Rollers (100+ pound recommended).

The first thing you need to do is prepare the old floor by cleaning it thoroughly. Clean and dirt or debris, fill any cracks it may have, and wash it. Your previous floor needs to be flat and clean and doesn’t need any structure damage. If your subfloor is too warped or dirty, you will have problems installing, or will run into problems later on that will be a much bigger deal by that time.

If you plan on installing the Konecto Flooring over concrete, this is fine, unless the concrete has moisture, wetness or an alkalinity issue. If it does, then you would need to use polyurethane sheets or even use paint-on concrete sealants over the concrete before you begin the installation. Better to spend some time now before it’s installed, than later on when the issue will be a lot harder to fix.

Get the Konecto in place, in the location and open it. You should let the Konecto flooring planks become accostume to the rooms temperature and the humidity before installing it. This usually takes a day or two depend on how drastic of a difference it is.

You will need to measure the room from wall to wall. If the room is not sqaure, you’ll need to make adjustments for it. Square off the measurement, and make a chalk line along the wall where you will start installing the Konecto vinyl flooring planks. If you’re room is completely square, this step is not needed.

Place the first Konecto planks down, an entire row, from one side to the other side of the floor, without actually fastening them together. One thing people have done is use Konecto planks from different boxes so that they don’t line up in color exactly. This slight difference in shade and color makes the room and style look a lot better to most. Make sure that the last piece will be smaller than 12 inches and if it is, you might want to consider cutting the frst place to have it look more even. You don’t want all similar sized planks, and then just one small plank.

Start at one corner of the room, and run the vinyl flooring planks to the other side. Trim off any over edges and then place a 1/8 spacer between the Konecto and the wall in the room. Make sure that the under-edge is facing away from the wall. Lay the next plank down, and put another spacer behind it. Then you’ll attach the sides with the tabs on the plank, they should be adhesive so they will stick.

Do the same thing with the second row, but do the cutting about 2/3rds of the first row, so that they will be offset and won’t run together. This makes the floor stronger and sturdier and looks more realistic. Put the Konecto plank down next to it, line up the adhesive strip on the side and back to the adjoining planks. Continue to do this along the side.

Install one piece that needs to be cut around by using really thick paper or even trace a simple template of the entire obstruction. Use your plank and score with your knife to snap that apart.

Use your hand-roller to go over all the seams, and if they pull apart, then you made a mistake so don’t do that until you’re sure they are exactly as you want. When the floor is done, pick up your spacers and go over it with the floor-roller to make sure it’s down and stable. Install your baseboard of your choice and hide the expansion space and you’re finished installing your new vinyl floor!
